KSEF U16 Alpine Race Team – Program Description
Program Overview: The KSEF U16 Alpine Race Team caters specifically to athletes aged 14 and 15 who have advanced from the U14 program or exhibit the skills and determination required for competitive alpine ski racing at higher levels. The U16 program intensively focuses on refining and mastering advanced racing techniques, strategically preparing athletes for competitive success at regional, Western Region, and National events. Training is comprehensive, emphasizing technical gate drills, targeted skill enhancement, and coached free skiing sessions aimed at significantly boosting racing capabilities.
Participation in the Far West racing circuit is central to the U16 experience, offering competitive exposure and critical opportunities for athlete development.
All U16 athletes are required to maintain an active U.S. Ski and Snowboard membership specific to their age category.
Pre-season Conditioning: Dryland training sessions run from September through November, concentrating on strength, agility, and endurance, to ensure athletes are physically prepared when the snow arrives.
Required Equipment: Families must equip athletes with:
Specialized racing skis for Slalom (SL), Giant Slalom (GS), and Super G (SG) disciplines, ideally including both competition and training pairs.
Race boots with an appropriate flex rating between 90 and 120.
Race-specific poles for SL and GS, including pole guards.
An FIS-certified hard-ear race helmet.
Ski goggles with interchangeable lenses suitable for varied weather conditions.
Durable waterproof gloves or mittens.
Mandatory shin guards for SL training and competition.
Recommended back protector for additional safety.
A Speed Suit featuring an FIS certification patch for racing.
A ski-specific backpack and water bottle for training sessions.
Equipment Guidance: It is highly recommended that athletes and their families consult KSEF coaches before purchasing equipment to ensure proper fit and functionality. All equipment must receive prior approval from KSEF coaches before participating in on-snow training.
Get ready to kick off an exciting season with KSEF! We understand that ski equipment can be a significant investment, so we encourage families to explore ski swaps and used equipment markets, especially for growing athletes. Having the right gear is essential for both safety and performance, and our coaches are here to guide you with any questions or concerns.
