U10 Alpine Race Team - 4006
Program Overview:
The KSEF U10 Alpine Race Team is the natural progression for young skiers eager to transition from our Junior Development (Jr. Devo) program into the exciting world of alpine ski racing. Specifically designed for athletes aged 7 to 9, this program builds upon the foundational skills developed in Jr. Devo, providing a structured pathway towards competitive racing. We focus on reinforcing ski racing fundamentals, instilling proper racing etiquette, and cultivating a passion for the sport.
Our comprehensive training program integrates targeted gate sessions, skill-enhancing drills, and guided free skiing, enabling athletes to refine their techniques and build confidence progressively. We emphasize a gradual introduction to competitive racing, ensuring a positive and supportive learning environment.
Building on Jr. Devo Skills:
This program assumes a solid foundation in skiing, ideally acquired through our Jr. Devo program. We aim to leverage the skills learned in Jr. Devo and apply them to the specific demands of alpine ski racing.
Racing Opportunities:
U10 athletes will participate in both the Far West Race Series and the Tahoe Race Series, which will provide valuable opportunities for them to apply their skills in a competitive setting.
Training Environment at Kirkwood Mountain Resort:
Our training takes place at the renowned Kirkwood Mountain Resort, incorporating both on-snow sessions and dryland training. We leverage Kirkwood's exceptional terrain and facilities to provide a comprehensive and challenging training experience.
Progression & Future Goals:
Our primary objective is to prepare athletes for a seamless transition into the KSEF U12 Team, building upon the skills and experiences gained in Jr. Devo and U10.
US Ski & Snowboard Membership:
All U10 athletes must have a current US Ski & Snowboard membership.
Required Equipment for Success
As a KSEF U10 Race Team member, athletes are expected to come prepared with the following essential equipment.
Families are responsible for providing:
Skis: One pair of multi-event or longer Slalom (SL)-specific race skis. The recommended length is on the athlete's forehead.
Boots: Snug-fitting race boots designed for alpine racing.
Poles: Straight ski poles without pole guards.
Helmet: A hard-ear ski helmet that meets safety standards.
Goggles: Ski goggles suitable for varying weather conditions.
Gloves: Waterproof ski gloves or mittens.
Shin Guards: Shin guards are mandatory for Slalom (SL) training and racing.
Speed Suit (Optional): A speed suit is optional but recommended for racing. Families with older athletes may find suitable options at ski swaps.
Equipment Guidance: It is highly recommended that athletes and their families consult KSEF coaches before purchasing equipment to ensure proper fit and functionality. All equipment must receive prior approval from KSEF coaches before participating in on-snow training.
Get ready to kick off an exciting season with KSEF! We understand that ski equipment can be a significant investment, so we encourage families to explore ski swaps and used equipment markets, especially for growing athletes. Having the right gear is essential for both safety and performance, and our coaches are here to guide you with any questions or concerns.
