Sölden Delivers! A World Cup Opener Full of Surprises and Inspiration

Alexander Steen Olsen, last season's rookie of the year, won his first World Cup GS title @AgenceZoom

Wow! What a start to the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season! Sölden always delivers an epic opener, but this year was something else. From shocking DNFs to inspiring comebacks and a whole lot of Norwegian domination, this race had it all. I'm buzzing with excitement for the season ahead, and I know our KSEF athletes are feeling the stoke too!

Let's break down the action, shall we?

Men's Race: Steen Olsen Shines in a Norwegian Sweep!

Talk about a statement race! Alexander Steen Olsen absolutely crushed it, leading a Norwegian 1-2-3 finish. To see him hold his nerve and take the win after being in the leader's seat after the first run was incredible. And to do it with knee pain? That's the kind of grit and determination that inspires us all!

Henrik Kristoffersen and Atle Lie McGrath also skied like bosses, securing second and third place respectively. It's awesome to see the Norwegians dominating the giant slalom like this.

Marcel Hirscher was back skiing in the World Cup for the first time in 2051 days @AgenceZoom

But let's not forget about Lucas Braathen. His comeback story is just amazing. To see him charge from 41st to 4th place with the fastest second run of the day was electrifying. And that samba dance in the finish area? Pure joy!

And then there's Marcel Hirscher. What a legend! To see him back in the World Cup after five years and lay down the third-fastest second run was a treat for all ski racing fans.

Of course, there were some surprises too. Marco Odermatt skiing out in the first run? Definitely not what anyone expected. But hey, even the best have off days. It just shows that anything can happen in ski racing, and that's what makes it so exciting!

Women's Race: Brignone Battles Back for the Win!

Brignone jumped up from third after run one to seal her second Sölden triumph @AgenceZoom

Federica Brignone showed us why she's one of the best in the world. Overcoming early mistakes and challenging conditions, she skied with incredible touch and power to take the victory. It's inspiring to see her defying the odds and proving that age is just a number!

Alice Robinson also had a strong showing, securing second place. And how awesome was it to see Julia Scheib grab her first-ever podium finish on home snow?! The crowd went wild!

Mikaela Shiffrin may not have taken the win this time, but she's still a force to be reckoned with. And a huge shout-out to Team USA for their impressive performance, with Katie Hensien and Nina O'Brien making incredible comebacks from injury.

It was tough to see Lara Gut-Behrami withdraw from the race, but her decision shows true courage and self-awareness. We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back on the slopes soon.
