Exciting Times Ahead: French Alps to Host 2030 Winter Games and Salt Lake City for 2034

The French Alps are set to host the XXVI Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2030 with Salt Lake City chosen as the host venue for the 2034 event

Hola, KirkwoodMtn fans and snow enthusiasts! The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has made an exhilarating announcement: the French Alps are set to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2030, and Salt Lake City, Utah, will take the reins in 2034. This decision marks a significant milestone in winter sports, with both venues promising to deliver extraordinary experiences.

During the 142nd IOC Session in Paris, the French Alps' selection was a high point. President Emmanuel Macron himself led the delegation, backed by key regional leaders and the French Olympic and Paralympic Committees. Their shared commitment to these Games showcases France's passion and capability to host a world-class event. The Games Delivery Guarantee, due by October 1, 2024, is the next big step to seal the deal.

IOC President Thomas Bach expressed confidence in France's ability to organize outstanding Games, drawing on the energy and creativity seen in the ongoing preparations for Paris 2024. The Games in the French Alps aim to unite the north and south, leveraging their renowned landscapes to benefit local communities.

Switching gears to the 2034 Games, Salt Lake City, Utah, is set to welcome athletes and fans back to its iconic venues. This decision marks a triumphant return to a place that last hosted the world in 2002. The anticipation is already building for events scheduled from February 10-26, 2034, with the Paralympics following in March.

For us snow enthusiasts, Salt Lake City is like a second home for winter sports. U.S. Ski & Snowboard, headquartered in Park City, is gearing up to shine, contributing to Team USA's success as they have in the past. Utah’s existing venues, combined with a vibrant ski culture, make it the perfect stage for the next chapter of the Olympics.

Sophie Goldschmidt, President and CEO of U.S. Ski & Snowboard, highlighted the inspiration these Games bring to the next generation of athletes. Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn, part of the presentation in Paris, emphasized the magic of Salt Lake City and her commitment to creating an unparalleled experience for athletes and their families.

President Macron's words echoed this sentiment: "France is dedicated to pushing the limits of excellence and ensuring the future of our mountains is innovative and mindful of ecological issues." This vision aligns perfectly with the French Alps' goals for 2030, making them a hub for winter sports while promoting sustainability and inclusivity.

The legacy of the 1992 Albertville Games continues to inspire, and French Alps 2030 aims to uphold this tradition by integrating Olympic Agenda 2020+5 principles and sustainability requirements.

With both the French Alps and Salt Lake City on the horizon, the future of winter sports looks bright. These Games promise to inspire passion, bring economic benefits, and create lasting memories. For all of us at Kirkwood and beyond, the excitement is palpable, and the #StokeLevel is definitely pinned!

And how cool would it be to see our very own KSEF athletes competing in one of these Games? We're rooting for them every step of the way!

Stay tuned as we keep the #StokeLevelHigh, and let's look forward to cheering on our KSEF athletes as they push the the boundaries of what's possible this season in hopes of reaching French Alps and Salt Lake City!
