Coaching Staff

Our talented coaching staff is excited about the upcoming season and ready to hit the slopes with our new and returning athletes. We feel that we have one of the best coaching staff’s in the Tahoe region. In addition, we will have guest coaches and during race camps, we anticipate participation from several KSEF Alumni, as well as other outstanding skiers, who will assist and encourage our athletes.

Jim Reilly

Jim Reilly - Program Director

Jim Reilly has been the KSEF Program Director since 2009. He has been ski racing since his childhood and competed at an NCAA level in college. Jim is a USSA Level 100 Certified Coach and also holds USSA certifications as Chief of Race, Chief of Course, Race Official and a Referee and is also PSIA certified. Jim loves Kirkwood and giving back to the community. He is passionate about skiing and has done a fantastic job running the program and maintaining an outstanding coaching staff. Jim, his wife Lisa and their younger daughter are in the program, while their elder daughter joined University of Utah after graduating from KSEF.


Jim Bell

Jim Bell

Jim Bell “JB”, has been coaching with KSEF for 15 years. He is a USSA level 100 coach and holds certifications as a competition official, race administrator, referee, and timing official. During the week, JB teaches Adapted Physical Education at Sequoia Union High School in Redwood City. He holds a BA in Kinesiology and Physical Education, and has won numerous awards for innovation, including Teacher of the Year by the State of California. JB loves to coach and push our athletes to new levels. He especially loves Kirkwood powder days and taking our kids “off piste”, introducing them to new chutes and terrain.


Corey Harris

Cory Harris

Born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, Cory grew up competing for the Heavenly Ski Team starting at age 7. As his racing career progressed he competed around the world traveling with the Western Region and US Ski Team. Cory closed his racing career with a scholarship to Montana State University competing twice in the NCAA National Championships. Cory now lives in Roseville, CA with his wife, Kerri, and daughter, Isla. His passion for skiing is still alive and he enjoys sharing that passion with others by helping them to improve on their skiing skills.


Bryce Wehan

Bryce Wehan

Bryce grew up in the Kirkwood valley and has been racing with KSEF since he was 8 years old. At 19, he moved to Jackson Hole to train and compete with a post-grad elite team. He has competed up to the Nor-Am level and raced similar levels in Chile and New Zealand. Bryce is currently studying Biology at the University of Nevada Reno, where he joined the recently cut NCAA team. Since the cut, he has been involved in restoring the ski/snowboard community at UNR by means of a new USCSA team. His summers have been filled by hiking around the Nevada desert studying invasive plants for a lab based out of UNR. He is looking forward to being back at Kirkwood and working with our athletes.


Kylese Zaiger

Kylese Zaiger

This will be Kylese's second season coaching at Kirkwood. She is another KSEF success story as she started her early ski racing career here at KSEF. She has recently spent the last three years in New Zealand working with the Men's New Zealand Alpine Team as their sports psychologist. Kylese has an M.A. in sports psychology and a PSIA level 3 certification. Her personal career contains racing both nationally and international at the Nor-Am level. She is excited about working at Kirkwood and looks to help improve both our technical and mental game.


Matt Savage

Matt Savage

Matt grew up in the Tahoe area and raced on the Kirkwood ski team as a junior.  His favorite events were Super G and Downhill and he competed at an international level racing in Nor-Am Cup and South American Cup events as well as FIS events in New Zealand and across Europe.  He has been coaching in the Far West for 10 seasons and is USSA level 200 certified.  Matt is passionate about the outdoors and spends much of his time backcountry skiing, rock climbing, hiking, and mountaineering.  When he is not outside playing he works for North Sails as the materials research and development engineer in Minden, NV.


Alisa Ferrier

Alisa Ferrier

Alisa joins the KSEF coaching staff from her previous position as Tahoe League Coordinator and coach with the Heavenly Ski & Snowboard Foundation. Alisa grew up in the Pacific Northwest where she started ski racing at age 11 with Team Alpental Snoqualmie and continued with the Western Washington University Ski Team. After college she started teaching ski school at Snoqualmie Pass, Washington and has been a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America since 1995. Alisa is the mother of three boys, who all started skiing at the age of 3. Her son Aksel will also be joining the alpine team with KSEF. Alisa holds a PSIA Level 2, Level 100 USSA Coaches Certification, Group Exercise Certification with AFAA, and CPR and First-Aid Certification. She serves on the board for South Tahoe National Little League and is a group exercise instructor with Fitness Evolution in South Lake Tahoe.


Patrick Traynor

Patrick Traynor, Ph.D.

This is Patrick's first season with KSEF and is working with the Master's team. Previous to this, Patrick was the Masters coach for Team Mountain High in Wrightwood, California in Southern California. A USSA competitor himself, when his schedule permits, he has raised two athletes, his sons, Patrick and Christopher who competed up to the FIS level. Patrick is a level 200 USSA coach with a level 300 certification in slalom and holds USSA certifications as a competition official and referee. When on the mountain and not coaching he is a ski instructor with Kirkwood Ski and Ride School. Patrick’s professional background is in education and has been a high school teacher, elementary and middle school principal, assistant superintendent, state director, and currently serves as Alpine County Superintendent of Schools.


Tony Barbier

Tony Barbier

Tony has been a KSEF coach and race crew official since 2006.  Tony is Level 100 Coaching Fundamentals trained as well as Alpine Official Timing/Calc certified.  He started his KSEF tenure as a Star Team coach during the 2006-2007 season.  Tony lives in Los Gatos and is a 20 year veteran of the high-tech industry in both direct and channel sales.  Tony is the proud father of two incredible sons who you might see around the mountain every once in a while.  He is also an accomplished musician with multiple albums, domestic and international tours with more in the works.  As a coach and a person, Tony believes that having fun is paramount and that family comes first.  Every single year with the Kirkwood Ski Team is an evolution of fun, growth and of course, close bonds and friendships through a shared passion for skiing.  KSEF is one big ski family with lots of kids!


Sinclaire O'Grady

Sinclaire O'Grady

Sinclaire grew up in the KSEF program and began racing at 7-years-old. At 15, she began training and competing nationally and internationally in USSA and FIS races with Sugar Bowl Academy. She spent four summers training and competing in New Zealand with Treble Cone Race Academy. As a San Francisco native, Sinclaire graduated from The Branson School in 2013. Currently, Sinclaire is studying Psychology at New York University, and spends most of her time in an infant psychology research lab. She is expected to graduate from NYU in May of 2017. During winter breaks, and whenever she is around at Kirkwood, Sinclaire loves to help out coaching with KSEF and ski the unbeatable Kirkwood powder.


Dana Keith

Dana Keith

This is Dana's third season coaching with the Kirkwood ski team. She was born on the big island of Hawaii and moved to Truckee at age 4. The Mighty Mights team at Squaw valley was her first skiing experience. In High school she competed in Cnissf races & then coached at Amador high after graduation. Being the youngest competitor at the first Darren Rahlves banzai got her hooked on racing again and she has done everyone since. Wilderness education is her major in college. She just loves kids and has taught at a Montessori Preschool. Her off season is always filled with an exciting outdoor job. She is a USSA certified coach and EMT. Dana wants to continue to improve her coaching skills and instill a lifelong love of skiing in the kids.
